Nipsey Hussle – At Conflict With The World

“Neighborhood Nip was a brilliant entrepreneur, a bridge builder, a philanthropist, a community activist and a spiritual compass, a fearless truth teller, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a powerful symbol of the possibilities in life—while remaining an acerbic critic of the systematic iniquities that deferred the dreams of so many from the community that he tirelessly represented.”

As someone who constantly had Nipsey Hussle on rotation growing up, his passing stung a lot. I think it’s the first time I’ve ever felt that strange feeling of losing someone you didn’t really know, but who had a lot of influence on your life. His name will go down for generations – there is a lot to learn from his work ethic and dedication. RIP.

Make It Up and Make It Happen

“What’s the desired outcome? And, what’s the next action? Those are the two questions that must be asked and answered by any of us, to determine what any of our “stuff” means to us.”

This is probably the shortest description of how David Allen’s GTD system works. Always great reminders on his blog.

Digital Minimalism and God (Or, is Social Media Undermining Religion?)

“At some point in Digital Minimalism, I remark that ‘humans are not wired to be constantly wired.’ But perhaps a more vivid formulation of the stakes is to wonder (with a dash of anachronistic hyperbole) what would have happened to Martin Luther King Jr. at that kitchen table sixty years ago if, instead of turning inward to find wisdom, he had been distracted by his mentions?”

That last sentence… ouch.

We Don’t Have a Talent Shortage. We Have A Sucker Shortage

“So apparently you won’t be considered for a senior position unless you’ve worked in almost exactly that role in a company that was almost exactly the same at almost exactly the same career level.”

Interesting article about hiring and the expectations companies have there.

You Must Try, and then You Must Ask

“15 minute rule.” That is, if you’re stuck on a problem, take a solid 15 minutes to bash your brain against it in whatever manner you see fit. However, if you still don’t have an answer after 15 minutes, you must ask someone. I shorten this down to “You must try, and then you must ask.”

Great rule (and applicable beyond just tech work).
